WEARY….. February 7, 2021

Even youths shall faint and be weary; and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. Isaiah 41: 31 ESV

Do you ever feel weary or put another way…. just plain tired? I sense much weariness from people, and I too feel weariness at times. We desire for everything to stop or slow down, allowing us to catch our breath and rest, but things just seem to keep moving at an uncontrollable pace, and this can be especially true in our minds. Have you ever attempted to turn off your thoughts when your mind is racing? It is easier said than done. One thing I have learned over the years is this…. I cannot control the circumstances of things around me, but I can control how I will react. However, it all depends on where I’ve placed my mind’s focus. If I focus upon the circumstances around me, I can experience the sensation of being overwhelmed, which ultimately can lead to weariness. To battle weariness, we need to remember a few very important facts.

Focus Is Needed:

Set your minds on things above not on earthly things. Colossians 3:2 CSB

When people look for relief, they will look in different places, but the Christian has been instructed where to focus their attention to gain relief. If you have been raised with Christ, seek the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Colossians 3:1 CSB. When we carry things in our mind that we don’t need, it compares to someone who is going on a journey and carrying things not needed for the journey. Such things weigh down the traveler and make the journey difficult if not impossible. We refer to such baggage as burdens. The burdens of which I speak can be worry, stress, worldly fear, too many responsibilities, financial, and ___________ ( fill in the blank) There are scriptures for each of the burdens I’ve listed, and I am sure there is a scripture for whatever word you would use to fill in the blank.

Rest Is Needed:

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Matthew11:28 CSB

I know of no one that doesn’t need a time of rest. Even Jesus would go away from the crowds to seek a place where he could spend time alone with his Father. After dismissing the crowds, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray. Well into the night, he was there alone. Matthew 14:23 CSB. Right after this time alone in prayer, we have the account of Jesus walking on the water in a storm. You will probably not walk on water, but this I know…. you will not successfully walk through the storms of life without him. It is better to prepare before you encounter the storm, but if a storm comes unexpectedly you still need to retreat and spend time with the one who will walk with you through every storm. WE ARE NEVER ALONE!!!!

Remembering Is Needed:

Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the creator of the whole earth. He never becomes faint or weary, There is no limit to his understanding. Isaiah 40:28 CSB

Always remember that we serve the creator of the universe who spoke the beauty of everything into existence. (Genesis 1) God also knitted you together in your mother’s womb and you are wonderfully made ( Psalms 139:13-14). God, unlike us, is limitless, as there are no boundaries that hold him. Rather, he holds all boundaries in his hands. That is who the God we serve is, and we must never…. never forget.

Practice on purpose the above. Focus, Rest, & Remember
