THE RESURRECTION… April 12, 2020
And behold, Jesus met them and said, “Greetings!” And they came up and took hold of his feet and worshiped him Matthew 28:9 ESV
In speaking with some senior adults concerning our present situation involving the coronavirus, which is a world wide pandemic, they said, “I have never seen nor experienced anything like this before.” I am working on becoming a senior adult, and I must agree that this can give a sense of concern, anxiousness, anxiety, along with a host of other feelings describing this present situation. I understand, as of right now, there is no known vaccine that is 100 percent successful as a cure. I also understand a higher percentage of those who experience this virus will recover rather than die…. at least that is the the current prognosis. However, my heart still hurts for those I’ve heard suffered loss because of this horrific virus. There are many people today that are placing themselves in harms way in order to care for the people infected. These people in all accounts are heroes, especially to those to whom they have personally cared for and touched. We would be amiss if we did not say, “THANK YOU”!!!!
This virus reminds us, there is another pandemic that has been around for almost as long as man has walked upon the earth. This pandemic is known as sin, and it manifests itself differently in people’s lives, but the results are the same each and every time. The death rate is 100 percent by all those infected and unfortunately all humanity has been infected. The good news is, there is a cure, and it is 100 percent effective. The pandemic of sin in reality has already caused death to come upon all mankind, so more than a cure is needed…. a resurrection is needed. It is one thing to be cured from a virus, but to be resurrected takes it to whole other level. The truth is, there is a person who was more than just a hero….. He was and is the Savior of the world. He is God’s Son…. JESUS…..who was sent to die and then made possible life after death by rising from the dead. May I share with you just a little about this precious account?
On the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and Mary were going to the tomb of Jesus, but before they arrived they experienced an earthquake, encountered an angel, and witnessed two guards passed out from fear. What a morning this would have been only adding to the horrific previous three days…. horrific except for the message received from the angel. The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay.” Matthew 28: 5-6 ESV They were coming to the tomb to see a dead man but instead they were told of the resurrected Lord. They were told by the angel to... “Go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and behold, he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him.” Matthew 28: 7 ESV They quickly went to tell the disciples…just as the angel had told them to do. The scriptures teach that as they went they were filled with fear and yet with great joy. (Matthew 28:8) On the way they experienced something even greater than the angel….. Jesus, himself. Jesus met them and said, “Greetings!” Matthew 28:9 ESV Oh my!!!!! Could you even begin to imagine, after seeing him beaten beyond recognition, tortured horrifically, and dead upon a cruel cross, now alive in front of you? Why wouldn’t you want to take hold of his feet and worship him (verse 9), for you would know beyond a doubt ….THIS IS GOD IN THE FLESH!!!! It is now two thousand plus years later and this is still the top message to the world….. HE HAS RISEN. There is no account that has lasted for two thousand years concerning anything or one that still effects the world as this account.… He is alive. Therefore let us……
Seeing Jesus as the Son of God is imperative to understand that he is the Savior of the world. To see him as Savior is to understand your sin as described in the Bible and the fact that you need a Savior. If we, on our own, are able to restore ourselves to life then there would have been no need for Jesus. Ask yourself, “How can that which is dead, give life to itself?” Only God, through his Son Jesus, could accomplish giving and making alive that which was dead. Jesus took the punishment for our sins on the cross; he conquered death and the grave in rising again. This makes life possible once again for all who believe. May you see Jesus as John describes him when he says, “Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” John 1:29 ESV
Listen When He Says … GREETINGS!
Jesus meets us right where we are and greets us as we are on mission accomplishing whatever task before us. Mary Magdalene and Mary were on their way to tell others of the resurrection and unexpectedly… Jesus was there. While traveling through this life, Jesus will make himself known to you along the way… please don’t be in such a hurry that you miss him. There is nothing more important than being able to hear his voice; he may choose to speak to you. He may speak in the mist of a heartache… tragedy … or perhaps just a gentle whisper during your day. One of the best ways that I know God still speaks to people today is in his word… the Bible. Jesus said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6 ESV Is Jesus calling you away from yourself and to him …. saying…. COME?
Take Hold And Worship Him:
There is no one more worthy of worship than he who saves by grace. For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not of your own doing; it is the gift of God. Ephesians 2:8 ESV
If you see and hear Jesus, you will want to worship Him. The reason? If you know him through salvation from sin……. you will know that you have been forgiven much. Jesus explained it this way, “I tell you her sins, which are many, are forgiven-for she loved much, But he who is forgiven little, loves little.” Luke 7:47 ESV I dare say, you will worship as you have understanding of all that he has done for you. If a person believes they will one day conquer death by themselves and will arrive at heaven’s gates on their own merit, then in essence, they are worshiping themselves rather than God. To hold and worship him is to know that he is alive and that only through Him you can have life.
I was once asked, “What’s the big deal? Of course, he could raise from the dead; He’s God.” The answer to that question is…….. YOU!!! You’re the big deal. God did it for you. Because he became flesh… lived… died….then rose from the dead…. you and I have new life also. God made the impossible… possible, so that we could experience life everlasting. For our sakes he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. 2 Corinthians 5:21 ESV….. in other words RESURRECTED …IN …. CHRIST….!!!
