Strength & Peace ….. March 21, 2020

May the LORD give strength to his people! May the LORD bless his people with peace! Psalm 29:11 ESV

It would be an understatement to say we are living in a difficult time. In all that we are hearing and experiencing we must not become discouraged as one who has no hope. As the hymn we sing…

My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus' blood and righteousness; I dare not trust the sweetest frame, But wholly lean on Jesus' name……. On Christ the solid rock I stand; All other ground is sinking sand.

When darkness veils His lovey face, I rest on His unchanging grace; in every high and stormy gale, My anchor holds within the veil.

His oath, his covenant, his blood support me in the whelming flood; when all around my soul gives way, he then is all my hope and stay.

When he shall come with trumpet sound, O may I then in him be found, dressed in his righteousness alone, faultless to stand before the throne ….. ON CHRIST THE SOLID ROCK I STAND; all other ground is sinking sand.

We can have peace with God through faith; Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us. Romans 5:1-5 ESV

This passage teaches us that as Christians, we are blessed beyond measure….we are justified by faith, we can have peace in the middle of this storm, and by faith we experience grace, enabling us to stand and have joy in the glory of God. Simply put, in times like these, we need a Savior. Which takes me again to a hymn…

In times like these you need a Savior, In times like these you need an anchor; Be very sure, be very sure, Your anchor holds and grips the solid rock!

This Rock is Jesus, Yes he’s the one, This rock is Jesus, the only one; Be very sure, be very sure, Your anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock!

Let me encourage you to pray, asking God that you yourself and others experience his strength and his peace in this season of life.

HIS STRENGTH:

Be strong in the Lord and the strength of his might. Ephesians 6:10 ESV

In a times of difficulty understand YOU CAN do all things through Christ which strengthens you. Paul in Philippians 4:11-13 ESV taught that he had learned to be content in every situation of life. Paul wrote, “Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am in to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH HIM WHO STRENGTHENS ME.” Philippians 4:11-13 ESV

Two things will give you strength in the days ahead…… (1) Seek the Lord and His strength, (2) seek His presence continually. Psalm 105:4 ESV This is something I encourage you to do intentionally. We seek for him in the Word / Bible, in our times of prayer, in the midst of the storm, in the time of calm and we do it continually. We…. Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 1 Thessalonians 5:16 ESV Be strong, friends…Be strong in the Lord and the strength of his might. Ephesians 6:10 ESV

HIS PEACE:

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving let your request be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7 ESV

How is it possible to not be anxious? Isaiah 26:3 ESV teaches us how…. You keep him in….. PERFECT PEACE …….WHOSE MIND IS STAYED ON YOU, …..because… HE TRUSTS IN YOU.

Jesus made us a promise before he went back to be with his Father. Peace I leave with you; MY PEACE I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let them be afraid. John 14:27 ESV

APPLICATION:

Have a battle plan to pursue strength and peace. As I have taught, have a warrior’s song….. A song you sing when becoming overwhelmed with all the information or situations in your life. When you sing it, sing it as worship of the Lord. Have a life verse or verses you have memorized, using them as a sword to battle, in the mind, the lies Satan may try to infiltrate into your thinking. Until you have them memorized, keep them marked, with your Bible close, that you may read them in the times of mind battle with Satan. Remember what James 4:7 ESV teaches… Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flees from you. In your life….. give no opportunity to the devil. Ephesians 4:27 ESV
