Spiritual Warriors ... February 28, 2021

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:12 ESV

You become a Spiritual warrior when you become aware of and engage in the warfare between the flesh and the Spirit. Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. Galatians 5:16-17 NKJV This engagement will only happen when you desire to experience the defeat of your sins hold on your life, and desire to walk in the Spirit. There are many that can be described as prisoners of war without ever realizing they have been taken captive. This type of captivity happens when you are sedated and controlled by sin. Some may look to escape from a life in which they are no longer happy by pursuing avenues of relief, but this can lead to more and sometimes even greater forms of captivity. As a warrior, against such a lifestyle, you must remember.....

You Are No Match:

The horse is made ready for the day of battle, but the victory belongs to the LORD. Proverbs 21:31 ESV.

Never attempt to battle Satan on your own, for you are no match. Battle..... Yes.... On your own.....NO!! Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God. Psalm 20:7 ESV The Bible makes clear that at the name of Jesus every knee shall bow and every tongue confess (Philippians 2:9-11) Jesus himself said.... “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.” Matthew 28:18 ESV. When Jesus is Lord of your life, Satan has no more authority over you than Pilate did over Jesus. (John 19:10-11). While it is true that you are no match against the devil, it is also true that the devil is no match against God. Jesus told his followers and he tells us.... In the world you will have tribulations. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” John 16: 33b ESV Always remember.... He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. 1 John 4:4b ESV

Take Every Thought Captive:

For the weapons of our warfare are not of flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. 2 Corinthians 10:4 ESV. Take every thought captive to obey Christ. 2 Corinthians 10: 5b ESV

You must take every thought captive, or your thoughts will take you captive. For this reason we control our thoughts rather than letting our thoughts control us. For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. For to set your mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. Romans 8:5-6 ESV As a believer in Jesus, Satan will attack your thought processing concerning the things of God. For example... have you ever wondered, "if God is a good God, why doesn’t he do something about the bad that happens in the world?" Another thought might be, "how do I know for sure that he is really there?" These two questions alone could create a whole series of teachings, but let me give just a couple of scriptures that could shed some light on those questions. The simple answer to the first question ... God did do something. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. John 3:16-17 ESV. The answer to the second.... For his invisible attributes, namely his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. Romans 1:20 ESV. In His creation of the world, he has revealed himself.

Application:

A warrior trains to fight the opposition in battle. Do not depend on what you can see..... depend upon who you cannot yet see with your eyes. GOD!!!! Put on his armor...... (Ephesians 6:10-20). If God is not protecting you... you will fail. I can do all things through him who strengths me. Philippians 4:13 ESV. Fight The Good Fight!!! Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness. Fight the good fight of faith. 1 Timothy 6:11b-12 ESV. (To understand the total teaching of fighting the good fight, it would be beneficial to read all of 1 Timothy chapter 6). What a testimony Paul must have left when he was able to pen these words.. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 2 Timothy 4:7 ESV. May it be the desire and challenge of all as followers of Jesus —— to do the same.
