Sing Praises To His Holy Name ….. September 6, 2020

All the earth worships you and sings praises to you; they sing praises to your name. Psalm 66:4 ESV

When we worship the Lord God, why are we worshiping? I know that He is God and is worthy of worship. I know that He is Creator and worshiped for the beauty of the world that He has created. I know that He is all-powerful and able to do all things. I know, from the Bible, that He alone is worthy of all worship and praise, but this morning I want us to focus upon the worship of His Holiness. God is perfect … without flaw… the purest of pure, without blemish. He is absolutely perfect with unadulterated perfection in every way and in everything. HE IS GOD…. HE IS HOLY!!!!! One reason I am encouraging you to do this is because of His call upon your life as a Believer. As he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy”. 1 Peter 1:16-17 ESV. To be holy as He is holy, you must first acknowledge His holiness. Without this knowledge of holiness, you will only be moral, but not holy. Morality is relative, but holiness is compulsive in following God, who is the same yesterday, today, and forever. To understand His holiness is to understand how He is REPULSED by sin. Also, when we understand holiness from God’s perspective, it will be because we have received the Holy Spirit and have the mind of Christ.

SPIRITUAL WORSHIP:

There is none holy like the Lord: for there is none beside you; there is no rock like our God. 1 Samuel 2:2 ESV

To worship God in His Holiness is to understand that He is not a way, but He is THE ONLY way to eternal life. Holiness is essential in order to see God. Strive for peace with everyone, and for the HOLINESS without which no one will see the Lord. Hebrews 12:14 ESV. We will see and understand the holiness of God when we have received the person of the Holy Spirit into our lives. It is His Spirit that convicts of sin and when the Spirit sheds light on our sin, it should result in confession and repentance. This is the difference between being religious and being a follower of Christ. Do not be like the Pharisees and scribes who were concerned about rules and traditions but did not have a relationship with God. This people honor me with their lips, but their heart is far from me. Mathews 15: 8 ESV. Being a follower of Christ is not something we only talk about, it is a lifestyle we live every day. I appeal to you therefore brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, HOLY AND ACCEPTABLE to GOD, which is your SPIRITUAL WORSHIP…… DO NOT be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12 1-2 ESV

SING PRAISE:

Sing praises to the Lord, O you his saints, and give thanks to his holy name. Psalm 30:4 ESV

When a person knows Jesus as Savior, they understand the preciousness of His name. And there is salvation in no one else, for there is NO OTHER NAME under heaven given among men by which we must be saved. Acts4:12 ESV. There is a sentiment in the world today teaching that everyone will go to heaven. In this teaching, it is taught and presumed there are many ways by which to arrive in God’s eternal home, but this teaching is not according to scripture. Jesus taught that He was the only way when he said, “I am the way and the truth, and the life. NO ONE comes to the Father EXCEPT through me.” John 14:6 ESV. God himself has highly exalted his Son. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:9-11 ESV The song, There Is Something About That Name, will take on a whole new meaning when you recognize Him as Savior of your life/soul.

APPLICATION:

God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth. John 4:24 ESV

You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me, yet you refuse to come to me that you may have life. John 5:39-40 ESV

Always remember, true worship comes from heart knowledge, not head knowledge. The evaluation of being a follower is not based on what you know, but rather in who you know personally—Jesus.

True worship is the result of receiving Jesus into your life and being the temple of the Holy Spirit. The outside should always give evidence of who lives inside of the body/temple. Not everyone who says to me, Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Matthew 7:21 ESV Being religious does not make you Christian, but being redeemed by the blood of Jesus does. Following rules gives you the appearance of being moral, but following Jesus makes you a disciple and will give evidence of the same. Being moral gives you reason to brag on yourself, but following Jesus will cause you to make much of Him. When following Him, you will take your eyes off of your self and desire to worship, sing, and give praise to His Holiness and worship Him alone. Let me encourage you to focus on the Redeemer. Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer. Psalm 19:14 ESV. Doing this will cause you, as a follower, to worship in spirit and truth.
