PLEDGE

July 4, 2021

To pledge is to make a solemn promise to do or not to do something. When a person promises to do something, it should be the endeavor of that person to keep such a promise. A pledge is to take a promise to the next level; in that, it is more than simply words. When pledging to do something, you should be willing to do everything within your ability to complete or fulfill that pledge. I have heard of a time when a person’s pledge was more binding than any piece of paper or contract. To fulfill a pledge reveals the true character of a person and is extremely important in the life of every person especially one who identifies as a believer in Christ, for we are his ambassadors. (2 Corinthians 5:17-20) Allegiance is loyalty or commitment to that which you have pledged. So to pledge allegiance is to solemnly promise to be loyal and committed with action and determination to what you have pledged allegiance to.

Pledging Allegiance To The Bible:

Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light on my path. Psalm 119:105 CBS

I have treasured your word in my heart so that I may not sin against you. Psalm 119:11 CSB

The Bible is titled “HOLY BIBLE”. It is titled so, for it is the belief of the true believer that it is God’s word to us. What makes it Holy……. GOD. This book is given to reveal to us by the Holy Spirit …GOD. It is God’s story past, presence, and eternity. It is full of history, psalm / poetry, wisdom, and the future yet to come. This book is not just a guide; it is God’s word recorded by those to whom God used to make available to us insight and understanding of His love for His creation.

Pledging Allegiance To The Christian Flag: The Christian flag is a symbol of standing together as believers for God’s kingdom. It is a piece of cloth and is not holy, but it is a symbol of Christians untied for the work of and for the kingdom of God. The colors of the flag have specific meanings. The red cross represents the blood and sacrifice of Christ. The blue represents faithfulness and loyalty, and the white represents purity. This flag according to historical accounts that I have read came into existence in the late 1800s to early 1900s.

Pledging Allegiance To The American Flag: We, as a nation, give pledge to the American Flag in the belief that it stands for liberty, justice, and freedom for all. The colors of the flag, as all flags, have specific meaning. White for purity and innocence, red for valor and hardness, and blue for vigilance, perseverance, and justice. The flag as we have it today came about in 1960.

Pledge to Christ: The pledge of your life to Christ is the greatest pledge of all because all other pledges are made up of words that will one day pass away. When we pledge ourselves to Christ, we give our lives to him by being obedient to the words of the Bible and this word (Jesus) that will never pass away. There are not a particular group of words that make up this pledge, but the Bible does give insight and instruction in this pledge. First we understand that God is Holy and that our sin separates us from God…BUT….. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9 ESV Second: If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. Romans 10: 9-10 ESV. Last but not least … you walk in and follow his teachings as he taught the disciples who walked with him when he was flesh. They walked with him in the flesh, and we walk with him by the Holy Spirit. One day we will see him face to face…. The one who redeemed us from sin by His blood and grace.
