No One Like Our God..... Part 3 ..... May 17, 2020

That you may know that there is no one like the Lord our God. Exodus 8:10 ESV

As I have stated the past two Sundays, “There is no one like the Lord our God.” I’m amazed at the different names describing God’s character, nature, and attributes. Names such as JEHOVAH-JIREH— provider.... ADONAI— Lord.... EL-SHADDAI—sufficient one JEHOVAH—“I AM”—Lord .... JEHOVAH-SHALOM—Lord of peace. There are many ... many more, but the point is made.... There is no one like our God. We seek to know the Lord God afresh every day by reading, studying, and spending time with him in prayer. Over the years I have contemplated much in the attempt to understand God. I have come to understand that our great God is not understandable from a human perspective. He is God, and his ways exceed anything my mind can grasp. Through the different names of God, historical accounts from the Bible, as well as present times of fellowship with him in spirit, I only receive glimpses of him and all that involves his greatness. The glimpses I see are his faithfulness, his unfailing love, mercy, and grace. He is the Holy Righteous King of all creation... the Alpha / Omega .... the first and last. He is the risen Savior, redeemer and friend. There are not enough words in all the languages of the world combined that could begin to explain the awesome God that he is. I contemplate one day being in his presence before his throne and I can feel a whole gamut of thoughts. Fear, excitement, reverence, and just an overwhelming sense of thoughts that words cannot express. I will one day stand / bow before God, who created all things and in his sovereignty directs all time, making history and the future all at the same time. Though I only read the account of John in Revelations, I can imagine his throne and the cry of, “Holy, Holy, Holy, is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come! Revelation 4:8 ESV Also.... the twenty-four elders fall down before him who is seated on the throne and worship him who lives forever and ever. They cast their crowns before the throne, saying, “worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.” Revelations 4:10-11 ESV If God were totally explainable or comprehendible, he could be packaged in a box and marketed. God is God, and whether a person can explain him or not... He is still God. With this thought let us remember some important life thoughts / choices. REMEMBER: Always remember God does not need to make sense to the world or even to you. For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. Isaiah 55: 8-9 ESV Jesus came to die for the sins of the world, but some wanted to make him an earthly king. After the miracle of feeding the five thousand... Perceiving then that they were about to come and take him by force to make him king, Jesus withdrew again to the mountain by himself. John 6:15 ESV God’s idea for Jesus was to be sacrificed for the sins of the world. Jesus would be a king, but not of this world. On the night Jesus was to be lead away to be crucified, Peter drew his sword and cut off a man’s ear while attempting to save Jesus. Jesus said to Peter, Do you think that I cannot appeal to my Father, and he will at once send me more than twelve legions of angels?” Matthew 26:53 ESV BE OBEDIENT: There is much that could be said concerning obedience, but the real question is.... Are you/we/ I, being obedient to God? We teach much about grace and rightly so, but we must be careful not to sin that grace might abound. Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means! Romans 6:1b-2a ESV To allow sin to go unchecked in your life is disobedience. Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to obey its passions. Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness. Romans 6: 12-13 ESV Never forget the words of Samuel... to obey is better than sacrifice. 1 Samuel 15: 22b ESV When you love God, it should motivate you to desire to keep and obey his commandments. Not for the purpose of gaining salvation, but to give evidence of the salvation you have because of his grace. (1 John 5:1-5 ...John 14:15...1 John 2:6...) MAKE YOUR CHOICE: There are only two choices... the gods of this world or the Lord God, whom there is none like. Joshua challenged the people to choose. “If it is evil in your eyes to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, Joshua 24:15a ESV ..... But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.’ Joshua 24:15b ESV This is a reality for everyone who breaths… which—god(s) or the God—will WE serve? How we live every day gives evidence of the choice we made. No one will ever be perfect this side of heaven, but as believers we should conduct ourselves in a manner that gives evidence of the Holy Spirit in our lives. As I have said many times....What you believe will determines how you live. If you’ve made the choice to believe in Jesus as Lord and Savior there will be evidence of that choice. APPLICATION: 1. Remember / memorize... Exodus 8:10..That you may know that there is no one like the Lord our God. Read in your Bible as one who is not reading to know about God but desiring to know him more as the “Lord your God.” 2. Obey..... If there is anything that should not be in your life.... confess it to God. Repent. Then do what God has called you to do in Romans 12:1-2. 3. Choose.... God .... You shall have no other gods before me. Exodus 20:3 ESV
