In Jesus Name…. January 26, 2020
Many people end prayers with the phrase, “In Jesus name we pray….Amen.” I know the reason people do this is because of the passage from John 14:13…….. Whatever you ask in my name. May I encourage you to let your life be a living prayer…. so to speak. Remember the passage from 1 Thessalonians 5:17… Pray without ceasing. What if we lived our lives as Christians every moment of every day…….in Jesus name. What if your life could be the answer to someone’s prayer because you are living it….. In Jesus name. As Christians our lives should give testimony to the fact that In him we live and move and have our being. Acts 17:28 ESV As a Christian this can be challenging in and of itself because even though we are redeemed by Jesus and have received forgiveness of our sins, we still face battles in living for him every day. Temptations do not stop just because we have been redeemed by God, for Satan will do everything he can to cause you to fail. This is why living in Jesus’ name should be the prayer of your life. When our life is over, may we have lived so that we might say… as Paul, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7 ESV …. In Jesus Name.
WHATEVER YOU DO:
And WHATEVER you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. Colossians 3:17 ESV
We must be careful with our words and actions, for people are always listening and watching to see if we are real as Christians. There are some people who watch Christians looking for a reason to justify themselves when living in a way they know is not right and needing an excuse for doing so, or to use one day when standing before God. Others may be watching you because they are truly searching for answers and need to know Jesus is real to you by how you live. I wish I could say I have always spoken or lived in a way that is consistent with what I am teaching, but that would not be truthful. However, conviction has always drawn me back to where I needed to be in my talk and walk with God. That is the redeeming grace of God in the Christian life. When speaking and living in Jesus Name, you should be able to give thanks to God because of who Jesus is in your life. Jesus will never lead you to live/pray in a way that is not consistent with the word of God, for he was the word of God that became flesh. (John 1:1-14) In the flesh, Jesus lived life as a perfect example as to how we are to live. tHe Christian, living properly before God, will bring and give Him glory.
WHATEVER YOU ASK:
Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in my name, I will do it. John 14:1314 ESV
This is not a name-it-and-claim-it teaching but a prayer prayed by one who wants to bring God glory when seeking God’s will and being living proof of the same. Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence before God; and whatever we ask we receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do what pleases him. And this is the commandment, that we believe in the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as he has commanded us. 1 John 3:21-23 ESV Also….. John 6:29 & Mark 12:28-31 give understanding to this teaching. When we truly believe, love, and live for Him, even our prayer will be different for we will want what he wants for our life…. even when we do not understand it in every situation. We are warned not to be worldly in our lives, for it will affect our prayer life. You do not have, because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions. James 4:2b-3 ESV (Read all of James 4 concerning a worldly mindset.) We may not always know what nor how to pray, but this I know: we are to pray….. Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 ESV When you can pray like this, your life will be a life lived…. in Jesus Name.
First and foremost a person must ….. Repent and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:38 ESV The righteous life we are to live is only possible because we live it ….. in Jesus Name. And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12 ESV Once you have believed in Jesus you have begun a journey of faith because of faith in God and his word. As a Christian, make the goal of living in Jesus’ name be this…… Let the words of my mouth and a the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight. Psalm 19:14 ESV …. Whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. 1 Corinthians 10:31 ESV …….. in Jesus’ name, Amen
